The lean hog market consistently demonstrates a seasonal price increase from November to April, primarily driven by reduced slaughter rates following the peak summer grilling season. This seasonal supply shortage occurs because fewer hogs are brought to market during the winter months. Since 2016, the only exception to this trend was during the disruptions caused by COVID-19.
