VIX breaks month long, 8 day cycle - what does it mean?

This is the first time since April 17th that the VIX did not follow its 8 day trend. It looked to be right on track, but then today it when completely sideways (literally). Maybe it shifted a day? Maybe a shift to account for the end of the month? Maybe a significant change in the market tread ahead? I did notice the market volume was down to one of its lowest levels since before the crash. However, the general advanced-decline cycle looked similar to the past.
