OpenAI Targets India For Stargate AI Expansion

Bacaan kurang dari 1 minit

OpenAI is plotting a big move into India with plans for a massive new data center that could carry at least 1 gigawatt of power, Bloomberg reported. The facility would be part of its Stargate project, the backbone of its AI infrastructure buildout.

The company is already scouting local partners to get the site off the ground. If built, it would stand among the largest data centers in India, where Microsoft MSFT and Google GOOG have also poured billions into cloud and AI infrastructure.

For OpenAI, the timing makes sense. India is now its second-largest user market, and demand for generative AI continues to climb. A local hub could cut response times, boost reliability, and help scale up new services.

CEO Sam Altman is set to visit India in September, a trip that could shed more light on the company's ambitions. His presence signals just how important the market has become in OpenAI's global strategy.

If the project advances, it would mark a milestone for OpenAI in Asia and put India firmly at the center of the AI infrastructure race.
