Sweco has signed an agreement to acquire Volantis, a Dutch company specialising in engineering and architectural services for the industry and healthcare sectors. The acquisition adds some 150 consultants to Sweco Netherland’s team of 2,200 architects, engineers and other experts, thereby strengthening its geographical footprint and sector experience.

Volantis Groep B.V. serves both private and public clients with a primary focus on the healthcare sector, including hospitals, care organisations and healthcare service providers, but also on industrial clients within areas such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and manufacturing. In 2024, Volantis received an FD Gazellen award from Netherland’s leading financial newspaper, recognising it as one of the top-performing and fastest-growing businesses in the country.

“We are pleased to welcome the consultants from Volantis to Sweco, as we see a strong fit in our shared strategic focus on advising clients in sustainability, circularity and the energy transition, and on supporting clients in the healthcare and industrial sectors specifically. This addition strengthens Sweco’s geographical footprint across the Netherlands and complements our sector expertise in building design, infrastructure and environmental consultancy,” says Eugene Grüter, Business Area President, Sweco in the Netherlands.

Volantis posted turnover of approximately EUR 19.1 million in 2024, while Sweco Netherlands had a turnover of approximately EUR 283.4 million in 2024. The company will be consolidated into Sweco immediately.

This acquisition aligns with Sweco’s acquisition strategy to grow the business by adding key skills that complement Sweco’s 22,000 experts, and it will expand the Group’s market position as Europe’s leading architecture and engineering consultancy.

Recent acquisitions by Sweco in the Netherlands include an engineering company specialised in security and smart building technology with 30 experts; a consultancy firm with 30 consultants in civil engineering, spatial planning, mobility and urban planning; an engineering company with 60 experts; and a leading environmental consultancy with 200 experts.
