Liquidity Heatmap [BigBeluga]The Liquidity Heatmap is an indicator designed to spot possible resting liquidity or potential stop loss using volume or Open interest.
The Open interest is the total number of outstanding derivative contracts for an asset—such as options or futures—that have not been settled. Open interest keeps track of every open position in a particular contract rather than tracking the total volume traded.
The Volume is the total quantity of shares or contracts traded for the current timeframe.
🔶 HOW IT WORKS
Based on the user choice between Volume or OI, the idea is the same for both.
On each candle, we add the data (volume or OI) below or above (long or short) that should be the hypothetical liquidation levels; More color of the liquidity level = more reaction when the price goes through it.
Gradient color is calculated between an average of 2 points that the user can select. For example: 500, and the script will take the average of the highest data between 500 and 250 (half of the user's choice), and the gradient will be based on that.
If we take volume as an example, a big volume spike will mean a lot of long or short activity in that candle. A liquidity level will be displayed below/above the set leverage (4.5 = 20x leverage as an example) so when the price revisits that zone, all the 20x leverage should be liquidated.
Huge volume = a lot of activity
Huge OI = a lot of positions opened
More volume / OI will result in a stronger color that will generate a stronger reaction.

Here's an example of a route for long liquidity:
Enable the filter = consider only green candles.
Set the leverage to 4.5 (20x).
Choose Data = Volume.
Process:
A green candle is formed.
A liquidity level is established.
The level is placed below to simulate the 20x leverage.
Color is applied, considering the average volume within the chosen area.

Input parameters
qty : Quantity of the position (default value: 100.0). The target label is represented by a green cross
buy_price : Buy price of the position (default value: 1.0).
fee : Fee percentage for the transaction (default value: 0.0016). note that this is not a percentage, but rather a decimal. So 0.0016 is 0.16%
target : Target price for the position (default value: 1.0). This is an extra label to show you where your target is on the chart. The target label is represented by a green cross
In addition to the main profit/loss label, the script also displays two auxiliary labels. The "BuyPrice" label presents the buy price of the position as a red cross symbol on the chart, allowing users to easily identify their entry point. The "targetSell" label displays the target sell price as green cross symbol, indicating the desired exit point for the position. These visual markers help users visualize their trading strategy.
The script takes into account that users may only need this information displayed on the last bar, as continuous updates might not be necessary. By checking if the current bar is the last one, the script ensures that the labels are only displayed when relevant.
Limitations

Brief overview of the indicator's functionality:
The Time Series Model indicator is a technical analysis tool that calculates and visualizes a linear regression line based on historical price data. It assesses the trend direction and provides an outer band around the regression line to indicate potential support and resistance levels. The indicator also detects outliers in the price data and calculates correlations between the time variable and the closing price. It offers various customization options such as input length, user-defined hours in advance, display settings for tables and fills, and the ability to show variable correlations. Overall, this indicator aims to help traders identify trends, potential reversals, and price extremes in a given time series.
Specific Functions:
Slope Calculations: The indicator calculates the slope and intercept of the regression line using the specified length of assessment (user defined). It also computes the residuals, standard error of the regression, and the upper and lower bounds of the standard error region. Additionally, it calculates multiple standard deviation bands around the regression line. The slope will change to green if the stock is in an uptrend and to red if the stock is in a downtrend.
Outliers: This feature detects extreme positive and negative outliers based on the z-score calculated from the price data. It highlights the outliers with a red background color to red if this option is selected.
Correlation to Time Assessments: This feature performs trend assessments based on the correlation between time and price data. It identifies uptrends, downtrends, falling trends, rising trends, etc.

Linear Regression Time Data: This section retrieves price data (close, high, low, open) for the specified timeframe and stores them in arrays for a linear regression analysis.
Define LinReg Variables: This section calculates linear regression lines and their upper and lower control limits for the close, low and high prices. It also calculates the correlation between close price and time.
Manual assessments: This feature allows for the manual assessment of time series data. The user can input a look forward for hours in the future and get the predicted price range based on the current time relationship. See image below:
Calculating model "fit": The indicator will display the amount of time the stock closes within and outside its respective bands to ascertain the degree of "fit" (see image below):
Explanations:
The outer cloud: The outer, tealish green cloud represents the regression line + 1.5 standard deviations from the regression line.
The inner cloud: The inner, white coloured cloud represents the immediate time series range calculated through regression of the open, high and low price of the ticker.
Correlations:
The ability of the indicator to calculate correlations on both the smaller and larger timeframes are its strongest feature. You can see the formation of trends by tracking the correlation over the length of the time series model's assessment. You can also track the degree of change. The image below shows the correlation table:
In this image, we can see that the stock is in a moderate downtrend manifested by a correlation of -0.73 (purple arrow).
This downtrend is weakening as manifested by a positive change of 0.05 on the shorter timeframe.
If we scroll down on the table and see the Close, High and Low, we can see that the larger trend over time is a downtrend and that this downtrend is actually strengthening. We know this by the negative change (negative change = significant inverse relationship to time is increasing. i.e. as time increases, the stock price decreases proportionately).
So what does negative correlation to time mean?
If a stock's price exhibits a negative correlation to time, it implies that there is a systematic relationship between the passage of time and the stock's price movement in the opposite direction. This finding could have several potential implications for traders and investors. Firstly, it suggests that the stock's price tends to decrease as time progresses, indicating a downward trend or bearish sentiment. This information might be useful for traders looking to capitalize on short-selling or hedging strategies. Secondly, it could indicate a potential opportunity to predict future price movements based on the timing of negative correlations. By understanding the relationship between time and price, investors may be able to make more informed decisions about when to buy or sell the stock. Lastly, a negative correlation to time may also suggest the influence of external factors or market conditions that systematically impact the stock's performance over time. All this indicator does is create the pane with a line chart using the Dominance charts to allow you to see the data with one button instead of doing it all manually. However with the addition to allow it to toggle between crypto and stables, so if you are using a /BTC pair, you don't have to add a new pane on, it automatically converts. If you are looking at USDT pairs for example, it will highlight that one for you.
While it can work under any conditions, the Dominance Momentum Indicator is particularly effective on higher timeframes, providing valuable insight into the overall plot of the market trend. With a 55EMA and a faster-moving average of 21EMA, this indicator is designed to help you stay ahead of the curve and make smarter trading decisions.
Remember the golden rule for stablecoin dominance. Down = good, and up = bad; however, you can just invert the indicator, so it flows with the market.
When it comes to the dominance of individual cryptocurrencies, for example, DOT.D, you might find that it going up = increasing dominance is STRENGTH. If the dominance of that is increasing it means it's growing.

VWMA/SMA 3Commas BotThis strategy utilizes two pairs of different Moving Averages, two Volume-Weighted Moving Averages (VWMA) and two Simple Moving Averages (SMA).
There is a FAST and SLOW version of each VWMA and SMA.
The concept behind this strategy is that volume is not taken into account when calculating a Simple Moving Average.
Simple Moving Averages are often used to determine the dominant direction of price movement and to help a trader look past any short-term volatility or 'noise' from price movement, and instead determine the OVERALL direction of price movement so that one can trade in that direction (trend-following) or look for opportunities to trade AGAINST that direction (fading).
By comparing the different movements of a Volume-Weighted Moving Average against a Simple Moving Average of the same length, a trader can get a better picture of what price movements are actually significant, helping to reduce false signals that might occur from only using Simple Moving Averages.
The practical applications of this strategy are identifying dominant directional trends. These can be found when the Volume Weighted Moving Average is moving in the same direction as the Simple Moving Average, and ideally, tracking above it.
This would indicate that there is sufficient volume supporting an uptrend or downtrend, and thus gives traders additional confirmation to potentially look for a trade in that direction.
One can initially look for the Fast VWMA to track above the Fast SMA as your initial sign of bullish confirmation (reversed for downtrending markets). Then, when the Fast VWMA crosses over the Slow SMA, one can determine additional trend strength. Finally, when the Slow VWMA crosses over the Slow SMA, one can determine that the trend is truly strong.
Traders can choose to look for trade entries at either of those triggers, depending on risk tolerance and risk appetite.
Furthermore, this strategy can be used to identify divergence or weakness in trending movements. This is very helpful for identifying potential areas to exit one's trade or even look for counter-trend trades (reversals).
These moments occur when the Volume-Weighted Moving Average, either fast or slow, begins to trade in the opposite direction as their Simple Moving Average counterpart.
For instance, if price has been trending upwards for awhile, and the Fast VWMA begins to trade underneath the Fast SMA, this is an indication that volume is beginning to falter. Uptrends need appropriate volume to continue moving with momentum, so when we see volume begin to falter, it can be a potential sign of an upcoming reversal in trend.
Depending on how quickly one wants to enter into a movement, one could look for crosses of the Fast VWMA under/over the Fast SMA, crosses of the Fast VWMA over/under the Slow SMA, or crosses over/under of the Slow VWMA and the Slow SMA.

Extension %This is a tracking tool to measure two different kinds of distances:
- Gaps, from the open/close or the high/low value to the nearest open/close or high/low value.
- Price extensions of one or two candles from a preferred starting point (open, high, low or close) to a final point (open, high, low or close). The two-candles mode includes an optional rectangle to help you visualize the first and the last point of the measurement.
The script will plot a label with a percentage when the extension reaches the value you set. Unless you choose to track the one-candle price extension, the label will always be displayed on the high/low value of the second candle.

This script is an interactive measurement tool that can be used to evaluate or keep track of trades. Like the long and short position drawing tools, it calculates a risk reward ratio and a risk-adjusted position size from the entry, stop and take profit levels, but it also does much more:
• It can be used to configure long or short trades.
• All monetary values can be expressed in any number of currencies.
• The value of tick/pip movement (which varies with the position's size) is displayed in the currency you have selected.
• The CAGR ( Compound Annual Growth Rate ) for the trade can be displayed.
• It does live tracking of the position.
• You can configure alerts on entries and exits.
█ HOW TO USE IT
Load the indicator on an active chart (see here if you don't know how).
When you first load this script on a chart, you will enter an interactive selection mode where the script asks you to pick three points in price and time on your chart by clicking on the chart. Directions will appear in a blue box at the bottom of the screen with each click of the mouse. The first selection is the entry point for the trade you are considering, which takes into account both the time and level you choose, the next are the take profit and stop levels. Once you have selected all three points, the script will draw trade zones and labels containing the trade metrics. The script determines if the trade is a long or short from the position of the take profit and stop loss levels in relation to the entry price. If the take profit level is above the entry price, the stop must be below and vice versa, otherwise an error occurs.
You can change levels by dragging the handles that appear when you select the indicator, or by entering new values in the script's settings. The only way to re-enter interactive mode is to re-add the indicator to your chart.
Once you place the position tool on a chart, it will appear at the same levels on all symbols you use. If your scale is not set to "Scale price chart only", the position tool's levels will be taken into account when scaling the chart, which can cause the symbol's bars to be compressed. If your scale is set to "Scale price chart only", the position tool will still be there, but it will not impact the scale of the chart's bars, so you won't see it if it sits outside the symbol's price scale.
If you select the position tool on your chart and delete it, this will also delete the indicator from the chart. You will need to re-add it if you want to draw another position tool. You can add multiple instances of the indicator if you need a position tool on more than one of your charts.

Display
The position tool displays the following information for entries:
• The entry's price level with an '@' sign before it.
• Open or Closed P&L : For an open trade, the "Open P&L" displays the difference in money value between the entry level and the chart's current price.
For a closed trade, the "Closed P&L" displays the realized P&L on the trade.
• Quantity : The trade size, which takes into account the risk tolerance you set in the script's settings.
• RR : The reward to risk ratio expresses the relationship of the distance between the entry and the take profit level vs the entry and the stop level.
Example: A $100 stop with a $100 target will have a ratio of 1:1, whereas a $200 target with the same stop will have a 2:1 ratio.
• Per tick/pip : Represents the money value of a tick or pip movement.
• CAGR : The Compound Annual Growth Rate will be displayed on the main order label on trades that exceed one day in duration.
This value is calculated the same way as in our CAGR Custom Range indicator.
If the trade duration is less than one day, the metric will not be present in the display.
The stop and take profit levels display:
• Their price level with an '@' sign before it.
• Their distance from the entry in money value, percentage and ticks/pips.
• The projected end money value of the position if the level is reached. These values are calculated based on the trade size and the currency.
Currency adjustments
This indicator modifies the trade label's colors and values based on the final Profit and Loss (P&L), which considers the dynamic exchange rate between base and conversion currencies in its calculations when the conversion currency is a specified value other than the default. Depending on the cross rate between the base and account currencies, this process can yield a negative P&L on an otherwise successful simulated trade.
For instance, if your account is in currency XYZ, you might buy 10 Apple shares at $150 each, with the XYZ to USD exchange rate being 2:1. This purchase would cost you 3000 units of XYZ. Suppose that later on, the shares appreciate to $170 each, and you decide to sell. One might expect this trade to result in profit. However, if the exchange rate has now equalized to 1:1, the return on selling the shares, calculated in XYZ, would only be 1700 units, resulting in a loss of 1300 units XYZ.
The indicator will mark the P&L and the target labels in red in such cases, regardless of whether the market price reached the profit target, as the trade produced a net loss due to reduced funds after currency conversion. Conversely, an otherwise unsuccessful position can result in a net profit in the account currency due to conversion rate fluctuations. The final losses or gains appear in the label metrics, and the corresponding color coding reflects the trade's success or failure.
Settings
The settings in the "Trade sizing" section are used to calculate the position size and the monetary value of trades. Two types of risk can be chosen from the menu; a percentage based risk calculation, or a fixed money value. The risk is used to calculate the quantity of units to purchase to achieve that level of risk exposure. Example: An account size of $1000 and 10% risk will have a projected end amount of $900 if the stop loss is hit. The quantity is a product of this relationship; a projected number of units to allow for the equivalent of $100 of risk exposure over the change in price from the entry to the stop value.
The "Trade levels" allow you to manually set the entry, take profit and stop levels of an existing position tool on your chart.
You can control the appearance of the tool and the values it displays in the settings following these first two sections.
Alerts
Three alerts that will trigger when you configure an alert on this indicator. The first will send an alert when the entry price is breached by price action if that price has not already been breached in the previous price history. This is dependant on the entry location you select when placing the indicator on the chart. The other two alerts will trigger when either the stop loss or the take profit level is breached to signal that a trade exit has occurred.

• Interactive inputs are implemented for input.time() and input.price() . These specialized input functions allow users to interact with a script.
You can create one interactive input for both time and price values by using the same `inline` argument in a pair of input.time() and input.price() function calls.

The indicator is quite straight forward in its application, as you would expect of a normal VWAP.

Each VWAP has individual settings that can be controlled such as coloring, which bands enabled, previous closes, labelling...

My suggestion for clarity is to use 1 VWAP with bands, and a 2nd with no bands + Previous close enabled at a higher timeframe
█ LIMITATIONS OF PINE (Please read)
I see many users going on different indicators with MTF in mind and trying to use it for LTF data e.g. 1hour chart, and selecting 5min in chart settings.

Double Tap is a pattern recognition script aimed at detecting Double Tops and Double Bottoms. Double Tap can be applied to the broker emulator to observe historical results, run as a trading bot for live trade alerts in real time with entry signals, take profit, and stop orders, or to simply detect patterns.
█ CONCEPTS
How Is A Pattern Defined?
Doubles are technical formations that are both reversal patterns and breakout patterns. These formations typically have a distinctive “M” or a “W” shape with price action breaking beyond the neckline formed by the center of the pattern. They can be recognized when a pivot fails to break when tested for a second time and the retracement that follows breaks beyond the key level opposite. This can trap entrants that were playing in the direction of the prior trend. Entries are made on the breakout with a target projected beyond the neckline equal to the height of the pattern.
Pattern Recognition
Patterns are recognized through the use of zig-zag; a method of filtering price action by connecting swing highs and lows in an alternating fashion to establish trend, support and resistance, or derive shapes from price action. The script looks for the highest or lowest point in a given number of bars and updates a list with the values as they form. If the levels are exceeded, the values are updated. If the direction changes and a new significant point is made, a new point is added to the list and the process starts again. Meanwhile, we scan the list of values looking for the distinctive shape to form as previously described.
█ STRATEGY RESULTS
Back Testing
Historical back testing is the most common method to test a strategy due in part to the general ease of gathering quick results. The underlying theory is that any strategy that worked well in the past is likely to work well in the future, and conversely, any strategy that performed poorly in the past is likely to perform poorly in the future. It is easy to poke holes in this theory, however, as for one to accept it as gospel, one would have to assume that future results will match what has come to pass. The randomness of markets may see to it otherwise, so it is important to scrutinize results. Some commonly used methods are to compare to other markets or benchmarks, perform statistical analysis on the results over many iterations and on differing datasets, walk-forward testing, out-of-sample analysis, or a variety of other techniques. There are many ways to interpret the results, so it is important to do research and gain knowledge in the field prior to taking meaningful conclusions from them.
👉 In short, it would be naive to place trust in one good backtest and expect positive results to continue. For this reason, results have been omitted from this publication.
Repainting
Repainting is simply the difference in behaviour of a strategy in real time vs the results calculated on the historical dataset. The strategy, by default, will wait for confirmed signals and is thus designed to not repaint. Waiting for bar close for entires aligns results in the real time data feed to those calculated on historical bars, which contain far less data. By doing this we align the behaviour of the strategy on the 2 data types, which brings significance to the calculated results. To override this behaviour and introduce repainting one can select "Recalculate on every tick" from the properties tab. It is important to note that by doing this alerts may not align with results seen in the strategy tester when the chart is reloaded, and thus to do so is to forgo backtesting and restricts a strategy to forward testing only.
👉 It is possible to use this script as an indicator as opposed to a full strategy by disabling "Use Strategy" in the "Inputs" tab. Basic alerts for detection will be sent when patterns are detected as opposed to complex order syntax. For alerts mid-bar enable "Recalculate on every tick" , and for confirmed signals ensure it is disabled.
█ EXIT ORDERS
Limit and Stop Orders
By default, the strategy will place a stop loss at the invalidation point of the pattern. This point is beyond the pattern high in the case of Double Tops, or beneath the pattern low in the case of Double Bottoms. The target or take profit point is an equal-legs measurement, or 100% of the pattern height in the direction of the pattern bias. Both the stop and the limit level can be adjusted from the user menu as a percentage of the pattern height.
Trailing Stops
Optional from the menu is the implementation of an ATR based trailing stop. The trailing stop is designed to begin when the target projection is reached. From there, the script looks back a user-defined number of bars for the highest or lowest point +/- the ATR value. For tighter stops the user can look back a lesser number of bars, or decrease the ATR multiple. When using either Alertatron or Trading Connector, each change in the trail value will trigger an alert to update the stop order on the exchange to reflect the new trail price. This reduces latency and slippage that can occur when relying on alerts only as real exchange orders fill faster and remain in place in the event of a disruption in communication between your strategy and the exchange, which ensures a higher level of safety.
👉 It is important to note that in the case the trailing stop is enabled, limit orders are excluded from the exit criteria. Rather, the point in time that the limit value is exceeded is the point that the trail begins. As such, this method will exit by stop loss only.
█ ALERTS
Five Built-in 3rd Party Destinations
The following are five options for delivering alerts from Double Tap to live trade execution via third party API solutions or chat bots to share your trades on social media. These destinations can be selected from the input menu and alert syntax will automatically configure in alerts appropriately to manage trades.
Custom JSON
JSON, or JavaScript Object Notation, is a readable format for structuring data. It is used primarily to transmit data between a server and a web application. In regards to this script, this may be a custom intermediary web application designed to catch alerts and interface with an exchange API. The JSON message is a trade map for an application to read equipped with where its been, where its going, targets, stops, quantity; a full diagnostic of the current state and its previous state. A web application could be configured to follow the messages sent in this format and conduct trades in sync with alerts running on the TV server.

Trading Connector
Trading Connector is a third party fully autonomous Chrome extension designed to catch alert webhooks from TradingView and interface with MT4/MT5 to execute live trades from your machine. Alerts to Trading Connector are simple; just select the destination from the input drop down menu, set your ticker in the "TC Ticker" box in the "Alert Strings" section and enter your URL in the alert window when configuring your alert.
Alertatron
Alertatron is an automated algo platform for cryptocurrency trading that is designed to automate your trading strategies. Although the platform is currently restricted to crypto, it offers a versatile interface with high flexibility syntax for complex market orders and conditions. To direct alerts to Alertatron, select the platform from the 3rd party drop down, configure your API key in the ”Alertatron Key” box and add your URL in the alert message box when making alerts.
3 Commas
3 Commas is an easy and quick to use click-and-go third party crypto API solution. Alerts are simple without overly complex syntax. Messages are simply pasted into alerts and executed as alerts are triggered. There are 4 boxes at the bottom of the "Inputs" tab where the appropriate messages to be placed. These messages can be copied from 3 Commas after the bots are set up and pasted directly into the settings menu. Remember to select 3 Commas as a destination from the third party drop down and place the appropriate URL in the alert message window.
Discord
Some may wish to share their trades with their friends in a Discord chat via webhook chat bot. Messages are configured to notify of the pattern type with targets and stop values. A bot can be configured through the integration menu in a Discord chat to which you have appropriate access. Select Discord from the 3rd party drop down menu and place your chat bot URL in the alert message window when configuring alerts.

█ IMPORTANT NOTES
Setting Alerts
For alert messages to be properly delivered on order fills it is necessary to place the following placeholder in the alert message box when creating an alert.

This placeholder will auto-populate the alert message with the appropriate syntax that is designated for the 3rd party selected in the user menu.
Order Sizing and Commissions
The values that are sent in alert messages are populated from live metrics calculated by the strategy. This means that the actual values in the "Properties" tab are used and must be set by the user. The initial capital, order size, commission, etc. are all used in the calculations, so it is important to set these prior to executing live trades. Be sure to set the commission to the values used by the exchange as well.
👉 It is important to understand that the calculations on the account size take place from the beginning of the price history of the strategy. This means that if historical results have inflated or depleted the account size from the beginning of trade history until now, the values sent in alerts will reflect the calculated size based on the inputs in the "Properties" tab. To start fresh, the user must set the date in the "Inputs" tab to the current date as to remove trades from the trade history. Failure to follow this instruction can result in an unexpected order size being sent in the alert.
█ FOR PINECODERS
• With the recent introduction of matrices in Pine, the script utilizes a matrix to track pivot points with the bars they occurred on, while tracking if that pivot has been traded against to prevent duplicate detections after a trade is exited.
• Alert messages are populated with placeholders ; capability that previously was only possible in alertcondition() , but has recently been extended to `strategy.*()` functions for use in the `alert_message` argument. This allows delivery of live trade values to populate in strategy alert messages.
• New arguments have been added to strategy.exit() , which allow differentiated messages to be sent based on whether the exit occurred at the stop or the limit. The new arguments used in this script are `alert_profit` and `alert_loss` to send messages to Discord
EMA Mean Reversion StrategyThis strategy is built on the simple idea that when the price gets far enough away from an EMA, it's bound to reverse. This strategy uses the percent distance the price is from the EMA to trigger ladder orders and sells when the price crosses a trailing stop. This strategy uses the EMA Price Distance Tracker indicator .
RedK Volume-Accelerated Directional Energy Ratio (RedK VADER)The Volume-Accelerated Directional Energy Ratio (VADER) makes use of price moves (displacement) and the associated volume (effort) to estimate the positive (buying) and negative (selling) "energy" behind the scenes, enabling traders to "read the market action" in more details and adjust their trading decisions accordingly.
How does VADER work?
------------------------------------
I have always been a fan of technical analysis concepts that are simple, and that integrate both price action and volume together - The concept behind VADER is really a simple one.
Let's walk though it as we avoid getting too technical:
Large price moves that are associated with large volume means buyers (if the move is up) or sellers (when the move is down) are serious and are "in control" of the action
On the other hand, when the price moves are small but with large volume, it means there's a fight, or more of a balance of energy, between buying and selling.
Also when large price moves are associated with relatively limited volume, there's a lack of "energy" from either buyers or sellers - and moves likes these are usually short-lived.
The analogy with VADER, is that we look at price moves (change of close between 2 bars) as the displacement (or action result) and the associated volume as the "effort" behind this action -- Combining these 2 values together, the displacement and the effort, gives us a representation or a proxy of the underlying energy (in a specific direction).
when both values (displacement and effort) are high, then the resulting energy is high - and if one of these values are low, the resulting energy is low.
we then take an average of that relative energy in each direction (positive = buying and negative = selling) and calculate the net energy.
note that we're approaching the analogy here from a trading perspective and not from physics perspective :) -- we can be forgiven if the energy calculation in physics is different ..

the thick Green / Red main line plot represents the net energy - and generally the main signal to be looking out for is when that line crosses 0 up or down - but i find it also very valuable to keep an eye on the individual energy lines as they sometimes "tell a story" like we see in the chart above,
Volume Calculation:

- VADER by default is a volume-weighted indicator - it uses the volume associated with change in bar close value (Full mode) as an accelerator in the calculation of the directional energy
- VADER introduces another method of integrating volume, by considering "relative" or "differential" volume (Relative mode) - in this mode, we consider the ratio of volume above the minimum volume observed within a "lookback" length - so practically, ignoring the minimum volume. in other words, if a price move is associated with very low volume, it gets very low "volume accelerator" (close to 0) and if the move is associated with very large volume, it gets the maximum volume accelerator (1 or close to 1) - The relative mode of volume calculation magnifies volume effect and ignores the low volume values that may just act as noise. test both modes and find which one works better for you.
- VADER also has the ability to work without volume (volume calculation = None) - and will revert to that mode when used with instruments that have no volume data. In that mode, VADER will behave similar to an RSI (but not exactly like it given the underlying calculation is different)
- We can also setup VADER at a specific resolution / timeframe that is different than the chart.
Using VADER & Other Thoughts

The main signal to look out for, is when VADER's Green / Red line crosses the zero line.
Green (above zero) represents that the net energy is with the buyers and we should favor long positions
Red (below zero) reflects that the sellers have control and we should favor short positions (or consider to close longs)
*** However, VADER should be used as a *secondary indicator* - given the big influence of volume on the calculation - VADER doesn't directly track price trend or momentum - VADER needs to be used in the context of other indicators that show trend and momentum - i would suggest you combine VADER with Moving Averages or other trend tracking indicators on the price chart, MACD, RSI and / or other trend and momentum indicators you're already familiar with.

Realtime 5D Profile [LucF]█ OVERVIEW
This indicator displays a realtime profile that can be configured to visualize five dimensions: volume, price, time, activity and age. For each price level in a bar or timeframe, you can display total or delta volume or ticks. The tick count measures activity on a level. The thickness of each level's line indicates its age, which helps you identify the most recent levels.
█ WARNING
The indicator only works in real time. Contrary to TradingView's line of volume profile indicators , it does not show anything on historical bars or closed markets, and it cannot display volume information if none exists for the data feed the chart is using. A realtime indicator such as this one only displays information accumulated while it is running on a chart. The information it calculates cannot be saved on charts, nor can it be recalculated from historical bars. If you refresh the chart, or the script must re-execute for some reason, as when you change inputs, the accumulated information will be lost.
Because "Realtime 5D Profile" requires time to accumulate information on the chart, it will be most useful to traders working on small timeframes who trade only one instrument and do not frequently change their chart's symbol or timeframe. Traders working on higher timeframes or constantly changing charts will be better served by TradingView's volume profiles. Before using this indicator, please see the "Limitations" section further down for other important information.
█ HOW TO USE IT
Load the indicator on an active chart (see here if you don't know how).
The default configuration displays:
• A double-sided volume profile showing at what price levels activity has occurred.
• The left side shows "down" volume, the right side shows "up" volume.
• The value corresponding to each level is displayed.
• The width of lines reflects their relative value.
• The thickness of lines reflects their age. Four thicknesses are used, with the thicker lines being the most recent.
• The total value of down/up values for the profile appears at the top.
To understand how to use profiles in your trading, please research the subject. Searches on "volume profile" or "market profile" will yield many useful results. I provide you with tools — I do not teach trading. To understand more about this indicator, read on. If you choose not to do so, please don't ask me to answer questions that are already answered here, nor to make videos; I don't.
█ CONCEPTS
Delta calculations
Volume is slotted in up or down slots depending on whether the price of each new chart update is higher or lower than the previous update's price. When price does not move between chart updates, the last known direction is used. In a perfect world, Pine scripts would have access to bid and ask levels, as this would allow us to know for sure if market orders are being filled on upticks (at the ask) or downticks (at the bid). Comparing the price of successive chart updates provides the most precise way to calculate volume delta on TradingView, but it is still a compromise. Order books are in constant movement; in some cases, order cancellations can cause sudden movements of both the bid and ask levels such that the next chart update can occur on an uptick at a lower price than the previous one (or vice versa). While this update's volume should be slotted in the up slot because a buy market order was filled, it will erroneously be slotted in the down slot because the price of the chart's update is lower than that of the previous one. Luckily, these conditions are relatively rare, so they should not adversely affect calculations.
Levels
A profile is a tool that displays information organized by price levels. You can select the maximum quantity of levels this indicator displays by using the script's "Levels" input. If the profile's height is small enough for level increments to be less than the symbol's tick size, a smaller quantity of levels is used until the profile's height grows sufficiently to allow your specified quantity of levels to be displayed. The exact position of levels is not tethered to the symbol's tick increments. Activity for one level is that which happens on either side of the level, halfway between its higher or lower levels. The lowest/highest levels in the profile thus appear higher/lower than the profile's low/high limits, which are determined by the lowest/highest points reached by price during the profile's life.
Level Values and Length
The profile's vertical structure is dynamic. As the profile's height changes with the price range, it is rebalanced and the price points of its levels may be recalculated. When this happens, past updates will be redistributed among the new profile's levels, and the level values may thus change. The new levels where updates are slotted will of course always be near past ones, but keep this fluidity in mind when watching level values evolve.
The profile's horizontal structure is also dynamic. The maximum length of level lines is controlled by the "Maximum line length" input value. This maximum length is always used for the largest level value in the profile, and the length of other levels is determined by their value relative to that maximum.
Updates vs Ticks
Strictly speaking, a tick is the record of a transaction between two parties. On TradingView, these are detected on seconds charts. On other charts, ticks are aggregated to form a chart update . I use the broader "update" term when it names both events. Note that, confusingly, tick is also used to name an instrument's minimal price increment.
Volume Quality
If you use volume, it's important to understand its nature and quality, as it varies with sectors and instruments. My Volume X-ray indicator is one way you can appraise the quality of an instrument's intraday volume.
█ FEATURES
Double-Sided Profiles
When you choose one of the first two configuration selections in the "Configuration" field's dropdown menu, you are asking the indicator to display a double-sided profile, i.e., where the down values appear on the left and the up ones on the right. In this mode, the formatting options in the top section of inputs apply to both sides of the profile.
Single-Sided Profiles
The six other selections down the "Configuration" field's dropdown menu select single-sided profiles, where one side aggregates the up/down values for either volume or ticks. In this mode, the formatting options in the top section of inputs apply to the left profile. The ones in the following "Right format" section apply to the right profile.
Calculation Mode
The "Calculation" input field allows the selection of one of two modes which applies to single-sided profiles only. Values can represent the simple total of volume or ticks at each level, or their delta. The mode has no effect when a double-sided profile is used because then, the total is represented by the sum of the left and right sides. Note that when totals are selected, all levels appear in the up color.
Age
The age of each level is always displayed as one of four line thicknesses. Thicker lines are used for the youngest levels. The age of levels is determined by averaging the times of the updates composing that level. When viewing double-sided profiles, the age of each side is calculated independently, which entails you can have a down level on the left side of the profile appear thinner than its corresponding up side level line on the right side because the updates composing the up side are more recent. When calculating the age of single-sided profiles, the age of the up/down values aggregated to calculate the side are averaged. Since they may be different, the averaged level ages will not be as responsive as when using a double-sided profile configuration, where the age of levels on each side is calculated independently and follows price action more closely. Moreover, when displaying two single-sided profiles (volume on one side and ticks on the other), the age of both sides will match because they are calculated from the same realtime updates.
Profile Resets
The profile can reset on timeframes or trend changes. The usual timeframe selections are available, including the chart's, in which case the profile will reset on each new chart bar. One of two trend detection logics can be used: Supertrend or the one used by LazyBear in his Weis Wave indicator . Settings for the trend logics are in the bottommost section of the inputs, where you can also control the display of trend changes and states. Note that the "Timeframe" field's setting also applies to the trend detection mechanism. Whatever the timeframe used for trend detection, its logic will not repaint.
Format
Formatting a profile for charts is often a challenge for traders, and this one is no exception. Varying zoom factors on your chart and the frequency of profile resets will require different profile formats. You can achieve a reasonable variety of effects by playing with the following input fields:
• "Resets on" controls how frequently new profiles are drawn. Spacing out profiles between bars can help make them more usable.
• "Levels" determines the maximum quantity of levels displayed.
• "Offset" allows you to shift the profile horizontally.
• "Profile size" affects the global size of the profile.
• Another "Size" field provides control over the size of the totals displayed above the profile.
• "Maximum line length" controls how far away from the center of the bar the lines will stretch left and right.
Colors
The color and brightness of levels and totals always allows you to determine the winning side between up and down values. On double-sided profiles, each side is always of one color, since the left side is down values and the right side, up values. However, the losing side is colored with half its brightness, so the emphasis is put on the winning side. When there is no winner, the toned-down version of each color is used for both sides. Single-sided profiles use the up and down colors in full brightness on the same side. Which one is used reflects the winning side.
Candles
The indicator can color candle bodies and borders independently. If you choose to do so, you may want to disable the chart's bars by using the eye icon near the symbol's name.
Tooltips
A tooltip showing the value of each level is available. If they do not appear when hovering over levels, select the indicator by clicking on its chart name. This should get the tooltips working.
Data Window
As usual, I provide key values in the Data Window, so you can track them. If you compare total realtime volumes for the profile and the built-in "Volume" indicator, you may see variations at some points. They are due to the different mechanisms running each program. In my experience, the values from the built-in don't always update as often as those of the profile, but they eventually catch up.
█ LIMITATIONS
• The levels do not appear exactly at the position they are calculated. They are positioned slightly lower than their actual price levels.
• Drawing a 20-level double-sided profile with totals requires 42 labels. The script will only display the last 500 labels,
so the number of levels you choose affects how many past profiles will remain visible.
• The script is quite taxing, which will sometimes make the chart's tab less responsive.
• When you first load the indicator on a chart, it will begin calculating from that moment; it will not take into account prior chart activity.
• If you let the script run long enough when using profile reset criteria that make profiles last for a long time, the script will eventually run out of memory,
as it will be tracking unmanageable amounts of chart updates. I don't know the exact quantity of updates that will cause this,
but the script can handle upwards of 60K updates per profile, which should last 1D except on the most active markets. You can follow the number of updates in the Data Window.
• The indicator's nature makes it more useful at very small timeframes, typically in the sub 15min realm.
• The Weis Wave trend detection used here has nothing to do with how David Weis detects trend changes.
LazyBear's version was a port of a port, so we are a few generations removed from the Weis technique, which uses reversals by a price unit.
I believe the version used here is useful nonetheless because it complements Supertrend rather well.
█ NOTES
The aggregated view that volume and tick profiles calculate for traders is a good example of one of the most useful things software can do for traders: look at things from a methodical, mathematical perspective, and present results in a meaningful way. Profiles are powerful because, if the volume data they use is of good enough quality, they tell us what levels are important for traders, regardless of the nature or rationality of the methods traders have used to determine those levels. Profiles don't care whether traders use the news, fundamentals, Fib numbers, pivots, or the phases of the moon to find "their" levels. They don't attempt to forecast or explain markets. They show us real stuff containing zero uncertainty, i.e., what HAS happened. I like this.
The indicator's "VPAA" chart name represents four of the five dimensions the indicator displays: volume, price, activity and age. The time dimension is implied by the fact it's a profile — and I couldn't find a proper place for a "T" in there )
I have not included alerts in the script. I may do so in the future.
For the moment, I have no plans to write a profile indicator that works on historical bars. TradingView's volume profiles already do that, and they run much faster than Pine versions could, so I don't see the point in spending efforts on a poor ersatz.
For Pine Coders
• The script uses labels that draw varying quantities of characters to break the limitation constraining other Pine plots/lines to bar boundaries.
• The code's structure was optimized for performance. When it was feasible, global arrays, "input" and other variables were used from functions,
sacrificing function readability and portability for speed. Code was also repeated in some places, to avoid the overhead of frequent function calls in high-traffic areas.
• I wrote my script using the revised recommendations in the Style Guide from the Pine v5 User Manual.

1. Bitcoin Macro Buy Signals.
a) The Bitcoin Commitment of Traders results see us focus solely on Largest 4 Short Open Interest & Largest 4 Long Open Interest aspects of the CoT Release data.
When the difference - is tight, a kind of pinch, these have been great Buy signals in Bitcoin.
We call this difference the Delta & When Delta is 5% or less Bitcoin is a Buy.
2. Bitcoin Macro Sells.
a) A sell signal is Triggered in Bitcoin at any point the Largest 4 short OI > or = to 70
3. AMPLIFIER Trade signals 'Super' Longs or Shorts -

User-Inputed Time Range & FibsGreetings Traders! I have decided to release a few scripts as open-source as I'm sure others can benefit from them and perhaps make them better.(Be sure to check my Profile for the other scripts as well: www.tradingview.com).
This one is called User-Inputed Time Range & Fibs.
The idea behind this script is to record the Range Highs and Lows of a User Defined Period, and plot potential Targets based on either Fibonacci Extensions or a Multiple of the Range Size. I created this originally for use with the US Session Initial Balance(From 9:30-10:30AM EST), however it can be set to any time period.
What is Initial Balance? In simple words, Initial Balance (IB) is the price data, which are formed during the first hour of a trading session. Activity of traders forms the so-called Initial Balance at this time. This concept was introduced for the first time by Peter Steidlmayer when he presented the market profile to traders(atas.net).
The IB is monitored as a break-out area for Range Extension traders. The IB High is also seen as an area of resistance and the IB Low as an area of support until it is broken(www.mypivots.com).
As a note, depending on the Time Zone you are in, you may need to manually add or subtract from the Timed Range to match the desired Time. For example in NY Eastern Time, I have to use 8:30-9:30AM to Capture the 9:30-10-30AM IB for ES and NQ. Similarly, I must use 14:30-15:30PM to Capture the 9:30-10-30AM IB for BTC. You will need to make adjustments based on the Time Zone you are located in.

Polynomial Regression Bands + Channel [DW]This is an experimental study designed to calculate polynomial regression for any order polynomial that TV is able to support.
This study aims to educate users on polynomial curve fitting, and the derivation process of Least Squares Moving Averages (LSMAs).
I also designed this study with the intent of showcasing some of the capabilities and potential applications of TV's fantastic new array functions.
Polynomial regression is a form of regression analysis in which the relationship between the independent variable x and the dependent variable y is modeled as a polynomial of nth degree (order).
For clarification, linear regression can also be described as a first order polynomial regression. The process of deriving linear, quadratic, cubic, and higher order polynomial relationships is all the same.
In addition, although deriving a polynomial regression equation results in a nonlinear output, the process of solving for polynomials by least squares is actually a special case of multiple linear regression.
So, just like in multiple linear regression, polynomial regression can be solved in essentially the same way through a system of linear equations.
In this study, you are first given the option to smooth the input data using the 2 pole Super Smoother Filter from John Ehlers.
I chose this specific filter because I find it provides superior smoothing with low lag and fairly clean cutoff. You can, of course, implement your own filter functions to see how they compare if you feel like experimenting.
Filtering noise prior to regression calculation can be useful for providing a more stable estimation since least squares regression can be rather sensitive to noise.
This is especially true on lower sampling lengths and higher degree polynomials since the regression output becomes more "overfit" to the sample data.
Next, data arrays are populated for the x-axis and y-axis values. These are the main datasets utilized in the rest of the calculations.
To keep the calculations more numerically stable for higher periods and orders, the x array is filled with integers 1 through the sampling period rather than using current bar numbers.
This process can be thought of as shifting the origin of the x-axis as new data emerges.
This keeps the axis values significantly lower than the 10k+ bar values, thus maintaining more numerical stability at higher orders and sample lengths.
The data arrays are then used to create a pseudo 2D matrix of x power sums, and a vector of x power*y sums.
These matrices are a representation the system of equations that need to be solved in order to find the regression coefficients.
Below, you'll see some examples of the pattern of equations used to solve for our coefficients represented in augmented matrix form.
For example, the augmented matrix for the system equations required to solve a second order (quadratic) polynomial regression by least squares is formed like this:

This pattern continues for any n ordered polynomial regression, in which the coefficient matrix is a n + 1 wide square matrix with the last term being ∑x^2n, and the last term of the result vector being ∑(x^n)y.
Thanks to this pattern, it's rather convenient to solve the for our regression coefficients of any nth degree polynomial by a number of different methods.
In this script, I utilize a process known as LU Decomposition to solve for the regression coefficients.
Lower-upper (LU) Decomposition is a neat form of matrix manipulation that expresses a 2D matrix as the product of lower and upper triangular matrices.
This decomposition method is incredibly handy for solving systems of equations, calculating determinants, and inverting matrices.
For a linear system Ax=b, where A is our coefficient matrix, x is our vector of unknowns, and b is our vector of results, LU Decomposition turns our system into LUx=b.
We can then factor this into two separate matrix equations and solve the system using these two simple steps:
1. Solve Ly=b for y, where y is a new vector of unknowns that satisfies the equation, using forward substitution.
2. Solve Ux=y for x using backward substitution. This gives us the values of our original unknowns - in this case, the coefficients for our regression equation.
After solving for the regression coefficients, the values are then plugged into our regression equation:
Y = a0 + a1*x + a1*x^2 + ... + an*x^n, where a() is the ()th coefficient in ascending order and n is the polynomial degree.
From here, an array of curve values for the period based on the current equation is populated, and standard deviation is added to and subtracted from the equation to calculate the channel high and low levels.
The calculated curve values can also be shifted to the left or right using the "Regression Offset" input
Changing the offset parameter will move the curve left for negative values, and right for positive values.
This offset parameter shifts the curve points within our window while using the same equation, allowing you to use offset datapoints on the regression curve to calculate the LSMA and bands.
The curve and channel's appearance is optionally approximated using Pine's v4 line tools to draw segments.
Since there is a limitation on how many lines can be displayed per script, each curve consists of 10 segments with lengths determined by a user defined step size. In total, there are 30 lines displayed at once when active.
By default, the step size is 10, meaning each segment is 10 bars long. This is because the default sampling period is 100, so this step size will show the approximate curve for the entire period.
When adjusting your sampling period, be sure to adjust your step size accordingly when curve drawing is active if you want to see the full approximate curve for the period.
Note that when you have a larger step size, you will see more seemingly "sharp" turning points on the polynomial curve, especially on higher degree polynomials.
The polynomial functions that are calculated are continuous and differentiable across all points. The perceived sharpness is simply due to our limitation on available lines to draw them.
The approximate channel drawings also come equipped with style inputs, so you can control the type, color, and width of the regression, channel high, and channel low curves.
I also included an input to determine if the curves are updated continuously, or only upon the closing of a bar for reduced runtime demands. More about why this is important in the notes below.
For additional reference, I also included the option to display the current regression equation.
This allows you to easily track the polynomial function you're using, and to confirm that the polynomial is properly supported within Pine.
There are some cases that aren't supported properly due to Pine's limitations. More about this in the notes on the bottom.
In addition, I included a line of text beneath the equation to indicate how many bars left or right the calculated curve data is currently shifted.
The display label comes equipped with style editing inputs, so you can control the size, background color, and text color of the equation display.
The Polynomial LSMA, high band, and low band in this script are generated by tracking the current endpoints of the regression, channel high, and channel low curves respectively.
The output of these bands is similar in nature to Bollinger Bands, but with an obviously different derivation process.
By displaying the LSMA and bands in tandem with the polynomial channel, it's easy to visualize how LSMAs are derived, and how the process that goes into them is drastically different from a typical moving average.
The main difference between LSMA and other MAs is that LSMA is showing the value of the regression curve on the current bar, which is the result of a modelled relationship between x and the expected value of y.
With other MA / filter types, they are typically just averaging or frequency filtering the samples. This is an important distinction in interpretation. However, both can be applied similarly when trading.
An important distinction with the LSMA in this script is that since we can model higher degree polynomial relationships, the LSMA here is not limited to only linear as it is in TV's built in LSMA.
Bar colors are also included in this script. The color scheme is based on disparity between source and the LSMA.
This script is a great study for educating yourself on the process that goes into polynomial regression, as well as one of the many processes computers utilize to solve systems of equations.
Also, the Polynomial LSMA and bands are great components to try implementing into your own analysis setup.

NOTES:
- Even though the algorithm used in this script can be implemented to find any order polynomial relationship, TV has a limit on the significant figures for its floating point outputs.
This means that as you increase your sampling period and / or polynomial order, some higher order coefficients will be output as 0 due to floating point round-off.
There is currently no viable workaround for this issue since there isn't a way to calculate more significant figures than the limit.
However, in my humble opinion, fitting a polynomial higher than cubic to most time series data is "overkill" due to bias-variance tradeoff.
Although, this tradeoff is also dependent on the sampling period. Keep that in mind. A good rule of thumb is to aim for a nice "middle ground" between bias and variance.
If TV ever chooses to expand its significant figure limits, then it will be possible to accurately calculate even higher order polynomials and periods if you feel the desire to do so.
To test if your polynomial is properly supported within Pine's constraints, check the equation label.
If you see a coefficient value of 0 in front of any of the x values, reduce your period and / or polynomial order.
- Although this algorithm has less computational complexity than most other linear system solving methods, this script itself can still be rather demanding on runtime resources - especially when drawing the curves.
In the event you find your current configuration is throwing back an error saying that the calculation takes too long, there are a few things you can try:
-> Refresh your chart or hide and unhide the indicator.
The runtime environment on TV is very dynamic and the allocation of available memory varies with collective server usage.
By refreshing, you can often get it to process since you're basically just waiting for your allotment to increase. This method works well in a lot of cases.
-> Change the curve update frequency to "Close Only".
If you've tried refreshing multiple times and still have the error, your configuration may simply be too demanding of resources.
v4 drawing objects, most notably lines, can be highly taxing on the servers. That's why Pine has a limit on how many can be displayed in the first place.
By limiting the curve updates to only bar closes, this will significantly reduce the runtime needs of the lines since they will only be calculated once per bar.
Note that doing this will only limit the visual output of the curve segments. It has no impact on regression calculation, equation display, or LSMA and band displays.
-> Uncheck the display boxes for the drawing objects.
If you still have troubles after trying the above options, then simply stop displaying the curve - unless it's important to you.
As I mentioned, v4 drawing objects can be rather resource intensive. So a simple fix that often works when other things fail is to just stop them from being displayed.
-> Reduce sampling period, polynomial order, or curve drawing step size.
If you're having runtime errors and don't want to sacrifice the curve drawings, then you'll need to reduce the calculation complexity.
If you're using a large sampling period, or high order polynomial, the operational complexity becomes significantly higher than lower periods and orders.
When you have larger step sizes, more historical referencing is used for x-axis locations, which does have an impact as well.
By reducing these parameters, the runtime issue will often be solved.
Another important detail to note with this is that you may have configurations that work just fine in real time, but struggle to load properly in replay mode.
This is because the replay framework also requires its own allotment of runtime, so that must be taken into consideration as well.
- Please note that the line and label objects are reprinted as new data emerges. That's simply the nature of drawing objects vs standard plots.
I do not recommend or endorse basing your trading decisions based on the drawn curve. That component is merely to serve as a visual reference of the current polynomial relationship.
No repainting occurs with the Polynomial LSMA and bands though. Once the bar is closed, that bar's calculated values are set.
So when using the LSMA and bands for trading purposes, you can rest easy knowing that history won't change on you when you come back to view them.
- For those who intend on utilizing or modifying the functions and calculations in this script for their own scripts, I included debug dialogues in the script for all of the arrays to make the process easier.
To use the debugs, see the "Debugs" section at the bottom. All dialogues are commented out by default.
The debugs are displayed using label objects. By default, I have them all located to the right of current price.
If you wish to display multiple debugs at once, it will be up to you to decide on display locations at your leisure.
When using the debugs, I recommend commenting out the other drawing objects (or even all plots) in the script to prevent runtime issues and overlapping displays.
Alpha Performance of PeriodAlpha Performance of Period (PoP) produces a visualization of returns (gains and losses) over a quarterly, monthly, or annual period. It also displays the total % gain and loss over any length of days, months, and years as defined by the user.
Performance of Period (PoP) can be used to understand the performance of an asset over multiple periods using a single chart layout, and to compare the performance of different assets by using a multi-chart layout.
This can, for example, be used to compare the NASDAQ, S&P, and DJI over the past 20 years to create a dow vs. nasdaq vs. s&p performance chart. This can help you understand a comparison of historical returns by showing which performs the best month-over-month, quarter-to-quarter, year-to-year, throughout any custom period of days/months/years.
The ability to get a visualization of the % gain/loss can help to better understand how markets have performed over time and which markets have historically performed the best.

Visual RSI [LucF]Visual RSI offers a different way of looking at RSI by providing a composite representation of 9 different RSI-generated components. Instead of focusing on one line only, this approach blends multiple sources to provide the viewer with a larger context RSI-based picture.
For those who don’t want to read
• Green in bullish (>50) zone is the most bullish.
• Red in bullish zone doesn’t necessarily mean bearish—it just means bullish strength is weakening. It may be just a pause before a reprise or exhaustion signalling a reversal—impossible to tell.
• The same in inverse applies to the bearish zone (<50).
For those who want to understand
The nine components making up Visual RSI are:
• a current timeframe RSI
• a higher timeframe RSI
• the delta between these two RSI lines
• for each of these three basic components, two independent Bollinger band: one calculated for the bullish section of the scale (>50) and a separate one calculated for the lower bearish region.
Dual BBs
In my view, RSI’s position with regards to the centerline is much more important than its position in extreme areas. Why? Because the building block of RSI is the ratio of the averages of up/down moves during the RSI period. When the average of ups is greater, RSI is > 50. So while a rising signal starting from 20 let’s say, indicates that the rate of change is increasing, only when it crosses 50 can we say that sentiment balance has truly become bullish, and this information is more reliable than the signal being at a level corresponding to whatever estimate we make of what constitutes an extreme value. In my landscape, the general balance of a ratio provides more valuable information than the ratio’s exact value.
The idea behind the dual BBs is to provide independent tracking information for both halves of the indicator’s space, which I find more useful than the normal method of simply adding a multiple of the standard deviation on both sides of the mean. With dual BBs, the upper BB will never go lower than the indicator’s centerline, and the lower BB will never go higher. The upper BB focuses on upper-bound volatility when the signal is bearish, and the lower BB focuses on downside volatility when the signal is bearish.
The functions used to calculate the independent BBs are reusable on other signals if a centerline can be defined for them. A clamping percentage is implemented, so that when a BB line is hugging the centerline it clamps to it. This helps in providing earlier signals when they use the BB line states.
Providing context to RSI
What RSI measures indirectly is the balance in the rate of change—or the speed of price movement, but not its instant value, otherwise RSI would be even noisier. More precisely, RSI represents the relative strength of the up/down movement in the last n bars of RSI’s length, with 14 often used because that’s what Wilder proposed (Visual RSI’s defaults are 20 for the current timeframe and 40 for the higher timeframe). At every bar, a new value is added to the equation and an old value carrying equal weight is dropped, so a large dropped off value will have more impact on RSI’s value if the new bar’s move is small. This accounts for some of RSI’s speed in identifying exhaustion after important moves, but almost for some of its noise.
Visual RSI is the result of trying to drown RSI’s noise in the context of other informational streams, while simultaneously providing even faster information than RSI alone, by giving more visual weight to the delta between the current and higher timeframe RSI’s.
How to read Visual RSI
The default settings show all 9 basic components as green/red areas of intensities varying with their importance. The most intense colors are reserved for the delta RSI and the BBs have the lightest intensities. The individual lines of components are intentionally difficult to distinguish so that focus is first on the general picture, including the all-important six-state background, and then on the delta RSI.
One entry setup could be reversals in a larger trend context, so low pivots of the delta in a fully bullish context (a green background in the upper section of the indicator), and inversely, high pivots in a fully bearish context (a red background in the lower section of the indicator).
Please resist the common misconception, when interpreting RSI, that a reversal in the signal will necessarily lead to a reversal in price. Each trend has its rhythm. Only machine-generated price action can progress regularly. It’s normal for trends to take a breather for some time before they continue or reverse, as traders driving the trend experience emotional fatigue and gradual fear. RSI reversals merely signify that such a breather has occurred—nothing more. Only the larger context can provide information that can situate that pause and put more meaningful odds on it having more probability of continuing in one direction or the other. This is the reasoning behind the setup just described.
Features
• All components can be hidden, displayed as a simple line, a uniformly colored fill, or a green/red fill (the default).
• The background can be colored using 9 different methods, including 3 six-state methods using the rising/falling BB lines of the 3 basic components. These six states allow for bullish/bearish/neutral sentiment in both the upper and lower regions of the indicator. A bearish (dark red) background in the bullish (>50) section of the indicator represents decreasing bullishness. A bearish (slightly brighter red) in the bearish (<50) section of the indicator means incresingly bearish sentiment. The six-state backgrounds allow for neutral (no color) sentiment when no compelling signs can be found to conclude anything with meaningful odds. The default background uses the six-state method on the higher timeframe RSI’s BBs because I find it the most useful, as it represents the largest—and slowest—context sentiment among all the indicator’s components.
• A thin status bar in the top part of the indicator also allows selection of the same 9 methods to color it. The default is a triple-state system using the rising/falling characteristics of the current timeframe RSI’s BBs to provide a short-term counterbalance to the long-term background.
• Three different markers can be configured using approximately 70 permutations each, each filtered by 20 different filter permutations. When modification of the relevant parameters in the script’s Settings/Settings/Parameters section is added, possibilities are almost endless. If the generated signals are then fed into the PineCoders Engine and combined with the Engine’s own options, the permutations go up another order of magnitude, and changes to any setting can be instantly evaluated using the Engine’s backtesting results.
• Five simple filters can be combined. They are additive. They include volume-related conditions and a chandelier, which I find useful because both volume and volatility (the chandelier using highs/lows and ATR) are sensible complementary sources to RSI’s momentum information. The filter’s state can be shown as a thin line at the bottom of the indicator.
• Alerts can be configured using any of the marker/filter combinations mentioned. As usual, once your markers/filters are set up the way you want, create your alert from the chart/timeframe you want the alert to run on and be sure to use the “Once Per Bar Close” triggering condition. Use an alert message that will remind you of which combination of markers were used when creating the alert.
• A plot providing entry signals for the PineCoders Backtesting & Trading Engine is supplied. It will use whichever marker/filter configuration is active to generate signals.
• All higher timeframe information is non-repainting. Higher timeframe lines can be smoothed (the default). The selection of the higher timeframe can be made using 3 different methods:
1. By steps (if current timeframe <= 1 minute: 60 min, <= 60 min: 1D, <= 6H: 3D, <= 1D: 1W, <=1W: 1M, >1W: 12M)
2. By a user-defined multiple of the current timeframe
3. Using a fixed timeframe
