I think the problem with day trading is that this costs much time, while Swing Trading can be done by casual 40h/week workers. So i think day trading is better for people that do it for a living, without any other full time job.
Swing trade with larger amounts when volatility is low, day trade with smaller amounts when volatility is high. Trading when things are shaking up is both an exciting and scary, so I usually only do that when I am not already under stress. Stress + volatility = FUD/FOMO trades. Gotta find your Zen before you think of doing that.
Since I'm mainly into cryptos, the main consideration for me is overnight risk. When markets are shaky, I do not want to have open positions when I'm not nearby. When the overall space is more conducive for swing trading, I'm more than happy to keep positions open longer and set bigger targets.
