UK prime minister Theresa May travels to the EU capital on Wednesday to negotiate the final touches to the UK’s exit package with Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission.
Britain will in effect remain a voteless EU member during the transition, continuing to make payments to Brussels of some €10bn-€15bn a year and accepting the free movement of EU nationals. So the prospect of extending the transition beyond its scheduled end of December 31 2020 will not be welcomed by many Brexiters.
